Day 5: Sunny Day

Lu: I plan to do nothing today--just kidding! I want to go swimming in the pool, and JUMP WAVES. (I love to copy Pop Pop when he said, "this is my FIFTH sugar!" when he drank his CAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Gio: I slept really well last night, and snuck into Pop Pop's bed. (He thought I was Luciano until I started talking!) I had a really weird dream when I was asking him to do the other Wii game. I want to jump waves today. Today I had fried HUEVOS for breakfast, and I had CAFE with 2 sugars. I'm planning today that I want to eat my FIFTH sugar!!!! Mom: In the late afternoon, we ventured over to La Selva Zoological & Rehabilitation Park, owned by a Spanish woman and Italian man. There we & the kids saw everything up close and personal: vampire bats, a sloth, an anteater, a toucan, several wild "cats", a gator, a croc, a possum, iguanas, 90 turtles, a porcupine, and lots of parrots.

Day 4: Waiting a long time for the rain to stop

Lu: Yesterday, Giovanni, Pop Pop and I met Andrea and her dog, Ruby (RUBIA.-because she is blonde) at the Intercultura School. There I swung Giovanni in a hammock. When we were walking back from seeing the new apt., the tide came in, and Pop Pop said we had to cross the RAPIDS with the vicious rip current. We weren't sure we could make it, so we gave Giovanni a walking stick and sent him first! The water was deep, and I got half of my pants soaked. Mom was not happy, because she had the digital camera with her. She did not want to make the same mistake as Pop Pop and his camera. Afterwards we ate lunch at the ANCLA (Anchor) Restaurant, where they had a cute, chubby, fluffy bunny in a cage. Pop Pop predicted we could wait out the 5-minute rainstorm. But after a half-hour, it was still pouring. Giovanni fell asleep in the chair waiting. We waited 30 more minutes and then it slowed down enough, & after 10 more minutes, it stopped. We walked back to the hotel, and then played football in the pool, while it rained some more on us!

Gio: When we crossed the "river" I screamed because this big eel came up. I thought that the eel was electric, and it would electrocute me. Mom thinks it was just a piece of wood.

We were good little Catholics and went to church. I liked the music at church, and I was scared to go up on the altar for the Our Father. I thought Luciano was coming behind me, but he chickened out. I gave the priest a hug, and I couldn't speak Spanish, so I was scared. I came back down to Mom, and started crying because I did not know what they were saying. Mom said I was very BRAVE (VALIENTE). Pop Pop says that Mom set me up. We liked our Spaghetti Carbonara & pizza at the Italian restaurant, and we both LOVED the Tres Leches dessert.

Day 3: Sea-sick

Lu: I went on the boat "to go catching." But I got sea-sick because the waves made me sick. I did not go catching at all. The captain's name was Marco. Marco brought my pop pop to go catching after my mom, Giovanni and I got off the boat. And then, he took my Pop Pop out about 8 or 10 miles, and the water was 100 feet deep. They did catch about 10 fish, but Pop Pop says they were smaller than the ones we catch at the Skyway. He says he caught the red snapper, and we all had it for dinner. The hotel manager, Leo, is a chef, and cooked it for us for dinner. And the fun part was that we brought our DS down to dinner (at the bar) and the bartender had a DSi. So, we DS-downloaded. Gio: The boat trip was not very good. When I tried to go snorkeling, the salt water got in my mouth. We got to go "flying" on the boat (meaning that it went really fast!)

Day 2: Playa Samara

Day 1: Traveling...June 23

Lu: We left home at 6:30 a.m....and after two planes, a taxi to the bus station, a 4-hour non-air-conditioned bus ride, and another taxi ride, we ARRIVED at our hotel 15 hours later. At dinner, after dinner, I fell asleep at the table.

Gio: We got to the hotel after a bus, a taxi, a plane, another plane, and a taxi again. After dinner, I was not tired. I wanted to have fun!
